University of Montevallo

University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Alabama, is a four-year public university in the United States. Founded in 1896, it is the only public liberal arts university in Alabama and Public Liberal Arts Colleges prestigious Council members.

University of Montevallo published by US News & World Report "America's Best Colleges" continues to receive accolades through the rankings. According to the rankings for the 2013 edition, UM Alabama's No. 1 public master's level universities in 2013 to be sorted as a distinction held every year since 2008, Montevallo South 14 listed as one of the state universities South, up the rankings in 2007, 22 points his division and 37 place in the general classification. History


Montevallo campus architecture is considered a gem. Its appearance is special, it is more in line with the elite institutions. Historical Sites in the middle of the campus is a National Historic District listed on the National Register. The main part of the campus was designed by the firm of Olmsted Brothers designed the grounds of the Biltmore House in North Carolina. Frederick Law Olmsted designed Central Park in New York City.

Montevallo University of Alabama Girls Industrial School (AGIS), but also high school level courses offered just opened in October 1896 as a women's polytechnic. AGIS also gradually school Women Alabama College in 1923, not in State College, developed as a traditional degree-granting institution in 1919. Montevallo in a region rich in Civil War history is located in the geographic center of the state of Alabama.
