
History
AUM was established in 1967 by Act 403 of the Alabama Legislature. In March 1968, Dr. H. Hanly Funderburk, Jr., was named vice president and chief administrator of the newly created university. AUM opened in September 1969 with about 600 students in the former Alabama Extension Center in Bell Street, next to Maxwell Air Force Base. Two years later, the university moved to a campus of 500 acres (2.0 km2) in the tract McLemore Plantation, 7 miles (11 kilometers) east of downtown Montgomery. The campus' first two buildings were the administration building / Library and Goodwyn Hall with classrooms and faculty offices.
AUM has been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as operationally separate institution since 1978.
In January 2007, the university began branding itself as Auburn Montgomery and unveiled a new logo. The redesigned logo incorporates Ida Belle Young Tower in a style logo Auburn University, with the clock tower resembles Samford Hall. While the official name of the university will remain the same, the rebranding aims to increase cooperation between institutions.
Academics
For the 2008-2009 academic year, AUM enrolled 4,686 undergraduate and 869 graduate students. The student body is 64 percent female and 36 percent male. 58 percent of students are white, 33 percent are black, 2 percent are Asian, and 1 percent are Hispanic.
AUM includes two schools (Business and Arts & Sciences) and two schools (Education and Nursing) that offer undergraduate, master's and specialist degree. The degrees of popular Licensure granted are business administration (25 percent), nursing (13 percent), liberal arts (9 percent), biology (8 percent) secondary primary education (7 percent) and (7 percent). AUM offers a doctoral program set Auburn University in Public Administration.
AUM has a continuing education program that enrolls more than 10,000 students a year. Continuing with education curricula include certification programs, corporate education, community education, computer training, languages (including English as a Second or Foreign Language), online training and youth programs.
College of Business AUM stands at 5% of business schools in the world accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International, and was rated as "Best Business School" by The Princeton Review.
Lecture series
annual conferences include Durr Conferences (since 1992), named after Clifford Durr and Virginia, Montgomery's lawyers and civil rights activists; Ingram and Conferences (since 1989), named for Robert Ingram, said political analyst and journalist.
Residential life
Accommodation
AUM offers apartment style residences in one, two, three or four plans bedroom floor. The house is divided into three communities: patios, common areas, and Warhawk Hall. The courtyards residence opened in the fall of 1979 and consists of seven two-story buildings .In 2003, the eight-story complex known as The Commons, which offers 4 private bedroom suites, opened, and in the fall of 2013, the new Warhawk Hall with one, two, and three bedroom floor plans opened. Approximately 10 percent to 15 percent of AUM students live on campus during the regular school year.
Athletics
equipment Auburn Montgomery (AUM), nicknamed athletically as the Warhawks are part of the National Association Athletics (NAIA), competing primarily in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SNCC). Men's sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, football and tennis; while women's sports include basketball, cross country, soccer, softball and tennis.
AUM has participated in the NAIA since the creation of the sports department 30 years ago. However, AUM has routinely explored possible future participation in the NCAA Division II. AUM was accepted in the accession process of the NCAA Division II on July 12, 2013, but then the decision was overturned on 26 July 2013. It is expected [8] AUM to join the Conference belt peach the 2014-15, but this will apparently be set aside with the NCAA's refusal to admit the school.However, the return to school applied and was approved to begin the accession process three years Division II on July 17 , 2015, and will begin the transition from the 2015-16 season, while joining the PBC effective for all sports in the 2016-17 season.
On August 18, 2011, AUM officially changed the name of its sports teams senators to the Warhawks.
tennis team women have earned ten NAIA national titles, including a streak of five title (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008). tennis team men have won nine NAIA national titles, including a stretch of three consecutive championships (2006, 2007, 2008). They won again in 2010, Scott Kidd was elected as NAIA Coach of the Year.
